Tips & Tricks
Eight patches and techniques to try when you're not sure what to do next.
Your first session
Plug in headphones. Press RUN. Turn TEMPO to about 11 o'clock. Set CORRUPT to about 9 o'clock on both sequencers. Now just touch knobs at random and listen. You don't need to "know" anything — the Labyrinth is teaching you as you go.
The slow-corrupt meditation
Set TEMPO to its slowest, both CORRUPT knobs barely above zero, EG2 DECAY long. The sequence will evolve over minutes rather than seconds. Make tea. Come back. It's somewhere new.
Filter as a voice
Turn down all oscillator and noise levels until the synth is silent. Now crank RESONANCE all the way up. The filter starts oscillating by itself — you can play melodies with just the filter using VCF CUTOFF and SEQ2 → cutoff.
The lock-and-evolve trick
Set SEQ1 CORRUPT to zero (so the melody is stable). Set SEQ2 CORRUPT to about 10 o'clock (so the rhythm voice drifts). The top line stays familiar while the bottom transforms underneath — songs build themselves this way.
When you find magic, hit BUFFER
CORRUPT is wonderful but unforgiving — once a sequence drifts, you can't exactly get it back. When you hear something you love, hold BUFFER to snapshot it. Now CORRUPT can run wild and you can always return.
First patch cable: SEQ1 CV → VCF CUTOFF
This is the most musical "first patch" on the synth. Plug a cable from SEQ1 CV (on the right side patchbay) into VCF CUTOFF (also on the patchbay). Now the sequence isn't just playing notes — it's also opening the filter on each one. The sequence gets a whole new dimension.
Polyrhythms with LENGTH
Set SEQ1 LENGTH to 5 and SEQ2 LENGTH to 7. The two sequences will phase against each other and won't fully realign for 35 steps. The result is hypnotic, ever-shifting patterns from two simple loops.
Kick drums and hi-hats from noise
For a kick: high NOISE LVL, dark NOISE TONE, very short EG2 DECAY. For a hi-hat: same NOISE LVL, bright NOISE TONE, even shorter decay. Combine with sequenced triggers for a built-in drum part.
The Labyrinth has more rooms than this guide can show.
